China and Fiji Deepen Friendship as Leaders Meet in Beijing

Beijing, China — Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with Filimone Jitoko, the Speaker of Parliament from the Republic of Fiji, on Friday. The meeting marked a significant step in strengthening the longstanding relationship between the two nations.

During their discussions, Vice President Han highlighted Fiji’s role as one of the first Pacific Island countries to establish diplomatic ties with China. He emphasized that their partnership has withstood global changes and continues to thrive on mutual respect and shared development goals.

"China is eager to collaborate with Fiji to implement the important agreements made by our leaders," Han stated. "We aim to bolster our traditional friendship and celebrate the upcoming 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relations together."

Han Zheng expressed China’s commitment to deepening political trust with Fiji and supporting each other’s core interests. He called for increased cooperation to promote the sustainable and healthy development of China-Fiji relations.

Speaker Jitoko reaffirmed Fiji’s dedication to the one-China principle, calling it the cornerstone of their bilateral relations. "Fiji greatly values the significant initiatives proposed by China," Jitoko said. "We are willing to enhance political trust, expand cooperation in infrastructure, poverty reduction, and tourism, and strengthen exchanges between our legislative bodies and governments."

The meeting concluded with both leaders expressing optimism for the future, hoping to bring more tangible benefits to the peoples of China and Fiji through closer collaboration.
