In a remarkable feat of engineering, the Chinese mainland has delivered a massive car carrier capable of transporting 8,600 vehicles, setting a new national record for construction speed.
The vessel, officially delivered on Thursday by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), was independently developed in China. Measuring around 200 meters in length with a beam of 38 meters, it is a dual-fuel carrier powered by fuel oil and liquefied natural gas.
Equipped with 14 decks for vehicle parking, the ship can efficiently load and transport up to 8,600 passenger cars, trucks, or buses. Remarkably, the hull assembly and adjustment were completed in just 200 days—the fastest in China for constructing such a vessel.
\”With our integrated construction technology and optimized roll-on/roll-off system design, we have overcome efficiency bottlenecks, allowing us to break this record,\” said Li Zhizhong, production director of CSSC’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. \”The vessel boasts excellent performance, high energy efficiency, and broad adaptability for different vehicle types.\”
Looking ahead, CSSC has received orders for other car carriers, including models capable of transporting 9,000 and 10,800 vehicles, the latter being the largest of its kind.
The shipbuilder aims to deliver 28 vessels this year. So far, it has delivered seven new ships, averaging one delivery every 11 working days, Li added.
