Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi Yoshimasa in Tokyo on Saturday, expressing China’s desire to promote healthy and stable bilateral relations between the two nations.
During the meeting, Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the importance of adhering to the principles established in the four key political documents that guide China-Japan relations. He highlighted that these documents provide a solid political and legal framework for the relationship and set clear guidelines for managing sensitive issues, including historical matters and the Taiwan question.
“China hopes that Japan will adopt a correct understanding of China and uphold its commitments on critical issues,” Wang said, urging for continued progress along the right path for China-Japan relations.
In response, Hayashi reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to the stance outlined in the 1972 Japan-China Joint Communiqué. He expressed Japan’s willingness to enhance exchanges and cooperation with China across various fields.
“We look forward to the upcoming Japan-China High-Level Economic Dialogue after a six-year pause,” Hayashi said. “We hope it will yield fruitful outcomes, contributing to the continued development of our bilateral relations and benefiting the people of both nations.”
The meeting marks a significant step towards strengthening ties between China and Japan, signaling mutual interest in collaboration and dialogue.
