Former Premier of Victoria, Australia, Daniel Andrews, has commended China’s remarkable advancements in renewable energy, urging deeper Australia-China collaboration to tackle global environmental challenges.
In an exclusive interview with CGTN’s Cui Yingjie in Beijing ahead of the 2025 China Development Forum, Andrews shared his insights on China’s high-quality development and its pivotal role in the global green transition.
“Formal Australia-China cooperation on decarbonizing heavy industries and advancing wind and solar technologies must be our next priority—this isn’t just about our nations’ futures, but the health of the planet,” Andrews emphasized.
As a reformer who spearheaded Victoria’s shift away from fossil fuels, he praised China’s new productive forces in renewable energy as a transformative model deserving greater global recognition. “China’s progress in renewable energy deserves far greater global recognition,” he stated, highlighting the potential for shared innovation and environmental benefits.
Andrews also expressed optimism about the positive trajectory of Australia-China relations in sustainability efforts. “Australia and China are forging a new path toward global sustainability through pragmatic collaboration,” he noted.
He contrasted this cooperative approach with other nations, stressing the importance of focusing on practical solutions over economic disputes. “While some remain preoccupied with tariff games, we are committed to working together for the planet’s future,” he said.
Andrews’ comments come at a critical time as nations worldwide grapple with climate change and seek effective partnerships to promote renewable energy and sustainable practices.
