Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for global cooperation and the practice of true multilateralism to address global challenges. In a written message on Monday, Wang emphasized the importance of safeguarding the United Nations’ central role in international affairs.
Speaking at an international symposium titled “Strengthen the Role of the United Nations and Promote Multilateralism” in Beijing, Wang highlighted the need for extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits in global governance.
“Together, we will bring stability to a changing and turbulent world,” Wang stated. “We must inject positive energy into building a more just and equitable global governance system and work toward the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind.”
Wang noted that the successful convening of last year’s UN Summit of the Future reflected the international community’s common aspiration to support multilateralism and strengthen the UN’s role.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations. Wang urged all countries to work in solidarity to uphold justice, safeguard peace, and promote global development and prosperity.
As a founding member and permanent member of the UN Security Council, China is committed to collaborating with all parties to enhance global governance, Wang emphasized.
The symposium was attended by over 100 participants, including representatives from nearly 50 countries, international and regional organizations, UN officials, experts, and scholars.
