Group of Friends for Peace Ukraine Crisis Approaching Turning Point

Global South’s Group for Peace Sees Hope in Ukraine Crisis

Members of the Group of Friends for Peace on the Ukraine crisis have expressed optimism that the conflict is nearing a turning point, welcoming recent developments toward peace talks. A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun, shared these insights on Monday during a regular press briefing.

Guo revealed that the Group recently convened in New York to discuss the latest events surrounding the Ukraine crisis and the prospects for achieving lasting peace. “The meeting was successful,” he stated, reaffirming the belief that resolving the conflict must occur through negotiated political solutions and diplomatic means.

The Group, which includes nations from the Global South such as China and Brazil, urged all stakeholders to play a constructive role. They emphasized the importance of finding a just and lasting solution that addresses the concerns of all parties involved and leads to a peace agreement acceptable to them.

“The Group will remain committed to maintaining close communication with all relevant parties,” Guo added. “We aim to amplify the voices of the Global South, contribute to a peaceful resolution of the conflict, and work toward a better future for all.”

Formed last year, the Group of Friends for Peace was established to uphold the United Nations Charter, foster consensus for a political resolution to the Ukraine crisis, and advance the prospects of peace. Since its inception in September, the Group has consistently advocated for an early peaceful resolution and has rallied positive forces toward a political settlement.

China has pledged to continue collaborating with the international community to promote rational voices for peace talks. “We will create conditions for ending the conflict and promoting peace talks, building momentum, and playing an active and constructive role in the political settlement of the crisis,” Guo concluded.
