Wu Yanni Sets National Record at World Athletics Indoor Championships

Wu Yanni shattered the national record in the women’s 60-meter hurdles semifinals at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, east China’s Jiangsu Province, clocking an impressive 8.01 seconds on Sunday. While her remarkable performance set a new national standard, it wasn’t enough to advance her to the final round.

The gold medal was clinched by Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, who finished with a season-best time of 7.72 seconds. Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji secured the silver just 0.01 seconds behind, and Ackera Nugent of Jamaica took bronze with a time of 7.74 seconds.

In the men’s 4x400m relay, the United States dominated as Chris Bailey, Brian Faust, Jacory Patterson, and Elija Godwin teamed up to secure the title with a time of 3:03.13. They finished nearly two seconds ahead of Jamaica. The Chinese team, which had held third place for several laps, was overtaken by Hungary’s Attila Molnar, who surged ahead to claim bronze with a national record of 3:06.03. China placed fourth, also setting a national record with a time of 3:06.90.

The U.S. women’s team continued the winning streak in the 4x400m relay. Quanera Hayes, Bailey Lear, Rosey Effiong, and Alexis Holmes claimed gold with a time of 3:27.45. Poland earned silver in 3:32.05, while Australia took bronze in 3:32.65.

The men’s 800m final was a thrilling showdown among Josh Hoey of the United States, Belgium’s Eliott Crestan, and Spain’s Elvin Canales. Hoey emerged victorious with a time of 1:44.77, edging out his competitors by a mere 0.04 seconds in a dramatic finish.

In the women’s 800m, Prudence Sekgodisoa of South Africa secured her first global medal, winning gold with a world-leading indoor personal best of 1:58.40. Ethiopia’s Nigist Getachew took silver, and Patricia Silva claimed bronze.

Norwegian star Jakob Ingebrigtsen completed a remarkable double, adding the 1,500m gold to his 3,000m title with a time of 3:38.79. Britain’s Neil Gourley secured silver in 3:39.07, while American Luke Houser took bronze.

In the women’s 1,500m, Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay shone by improving her own championship record to 3:54.86, leading a 1-2 finish for Ethiopia with Diribe Welteji taking silver in 3:59.30. Britain’s Georgia Hunter Bell earned bronze with a personal best of 3:59.84.

Italy’s Mattia Furlani soared to victory in the men’s long jump with a leap of 8.30 meters. Jamaica’s Wayne Pinnock followed closely with a jump of 8.29 meters, while Australia’s Liam Adcock, in his first indoor competition, earned bronze with 8.28 meters.

In the women’s long jump, American Claire Bryant captured gold in her major international debut. Bryant led from the first round and set a personal best of 6.96 meters in the fifth round. Switzerland’s Annik Kalin secured silver, and Spain’s Fatima Diame took bronze.

Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers successfully defended her title in the women’s high jump with a clearance of 1.97 meters, edging out teammate Eleanor Patterson. Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh claimed bronze with a leap of 1.95 meters.

In the men’s shot put, Tom Walsh of New Zealand claimed his third title, launching a season’s best of 21.65 meters. He secured gold by a narrow three-centimeter margin over Sweden’s Roger Steen. American Adrian Piperi took bronze with a throw of 21.48 meters.

Norway’s Sander Skotheim added another triumph to his collection by taking the heptathlon title with a score of 6,475 points, a remarkable feat just weeks after his European indoor title. Estonia’s Johannes Erm earned silver with a national record of 6,437 points, while Germany’s Till Steinforth took bronze with 6,275 points.
