China and India have held their 33rd meeting to discuss border affairs, aiming to strengthen peace and cooperation along their shared boundary.
The meeting took place on Tuesday in Beijing, co-chaired by Hong Liang, Director General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, and Gourangalal Das, Joint Secretary of the East Asia Division of India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
Both sides engaged in comprehensive and in-depth discussions in a “positive, constructive, and forward-looking” manner, according to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry. The talks focused on implementing consensus reached during previous negotiations, particularly those from the 23rd meeting between the special representatives on the boundary question.
During the earlier meeting, China’s special representative Wang Yi met with India’s special representative and National Security Adviser Shri Ajit Doval. The two sides reached a significant consensus, marking a milestone in their efforts to address border issues.
In the latest talks, China and India agreed to adopt practical measures to maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas. They emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation, and expressed commitment to actively prepare for the next meeting between their special representatives on the boundary question.
The ongoing discussions reflect both countries’ dedication to resolving border issues and enhancing mutual trust. By working together, China and India aim to promote stability and prosperity in the region, benefiting not only themselves but the wider Global South.
