China’s Premier Li Qiang and ADB President Kanda Pledge Stronger Ties

Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with the President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Masato Kanda, in Beijing on Monday, expressing China’s readiness to enhance cooperation with the ADB across various sectors.

Amid global economic uncertainties caused by geopolitical tensions and rising protectionism, Premier Li emphasized the importance of solidarity among Asian countries. He called for strengthened coordination, a commitment to multilateralism, and advancement of regional economic integration to ensure stability in trade, investment, and technology flows.

“By enhancing collaboration, we can improve the efficiency and resilience of the Asian economy, better withstand risks, and achieve common development,” Li stated.

Highlighting the ADB’s significant role in the Asia-Pacific region, Li expressed China’s willingness to elevate their partnership. He suggested deepening financial cooperation in environmental protection, green and low-carbon development, as well as elderly care and medical services. Additionally, he proposed sharing China’s experiences in poverty reduction and the digital economy to support other developing members in overcoming challenges and achieving sustainable growth.

This enhanced cooperation could open up opportunities for young people across the region, particularly in areas like technological innovation and sustainable development, offering prospects for careers in emerging industries.

President Kanda acknowledged China’s commitment to deepening reform and opening up, noting its contribution to steady economic growth in Asia and globally. “The ADB values its cooperation with China and looks forward to strengthening ties in knowledge innovation, green development, and other fields,” Kanda said.

Both leaders agreed to work towards taking their cooperative partnership to a higher level, promoting development throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
