The Fujian coast guard has been conducting routine law enforcement patrols in the waters near Kinmen since March, according to Zhu Anqing, spokesperson for a regional bureau of the China Coast Guard. On Tuesday, the coast guard continued its patrols, aiming to enhance maritime management in the area.
The operation is designed to safeguard the legitimate rights, interests, and safety of Chinese fisherfolk, including those from the Taiwan region, Zhu said. By maintaining regular patrols, the coast guard seeks to ensure orderly navigation and operations in the Xiamen-Kinmen waters.
Kinmen, a group of islands governed by the Taiwan authorities, is located just off the coast of Fujian province. The proximity of these waters makes it a vital area for fishing and transportation for people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
The continuous patrols by the Fujian coast guard are expected to bolster safety and cooperation in the maritime region, supporting the livelihoods of fisherfolk and promoting peaceful navigation.
