Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang is advocating for accelerated efforts to develop the Hainan Free Trade Port, aiming to transform it into a key gateway for China’s new era of global engagement. During an inspection in south China’s Hainan Province on Monday and Tuesday, Ding underscored the importance of preparing for the port’s independent customs operations, set to launch this year.
While visiting social management information facilities, airports, and harbor ports, Ding stressed the necessity of ensuring a smooth and orderly transition. “We must guarantee the successful operation of the independent customs system,” he stated, highlighting the port’s critical role in China’s economic expansion.
Ding also reviewed the implementation of duty-free shopping policies and the establishment of an international tourism consumption center in Hainan. He encouraged the province to harness its unique strengths and local conditions to foster new, high-quality productive forces and expedite the development of a modern industrial system.
Emphasizing innovation and education, the vice premier called for greater efforts to advance the commercial spaceflight sector and improve the quality of education in rural areas. “Balanced regional development is essential for sustainable growth,” he noted.
Ding Xuexiang serves not only as vice premier but also as a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
