China and the European Union (EU) have agreed to deepen economic and trade cooperation, marking a significant step in strengthening their longstanding relationship.

On Thursday, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng met with European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic in Beijing. Vice Premier He emphasized China’s willingness to collaborate with the EU to enhance dialogue and exchanges, properly address economic and trade differences, and expand mutual openness.

“China is committed to promoting the healthy and stable development of China-EU economic and trade relations,” said He, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. He highlighted the importance of resisting unilateralism and protectionism while safeguarding the multilateral trading system.

The meeting coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the EU. Both sides recognized this milestone as an opportunity to reinforce their partnership.

Sefcovic acknowledged China’s important role as an EU partner and expressed a strong desire to use the anniversary as a platform to deepen economic and trade cooperation. He agreed that resolving differences through dialogue and consultation is crucial for the mutual benefit of both regions.
