China’s Commerce Ministry announced on Thursday that it has filed a lawsuit against the United States over additional tariffs imposed by the US. The lawsuit was filed under the World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement mechanism, aiming to address what China views as unfair trade practices.
During a press briefing, spokesperson He Yadong described the US tariff actions as a clear example of unilateralism and protectionism that severely violate WTO rules.
“In response to these tariffs, China has initiated a lawsuit under the WTO dispute settlement mechanism. The US agreed to consultations under this mechanism on March 14, and China will continue to advance the procedures in accordance with WTO rules,” He stated.
This move is the latest development in ongoing trade tensions between the two largest economies in the world. By taking the dispute to the WTO, China signals its commitment to resolving trade issues through established international frameworks.
