A new white paper released on Friday showcases the remarkable strides made in human rights within southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region. Titled “Human Rights in Xizang in the New Era“, the document was unveiled by the State Council Information Office during a press conference in Lhasa, the region’s capital.
The paper highlights the effective measures implemented by the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government to foster economic development, enhance living standards, promote ethnic unity, and safeguard the basic rights of all people in Xizang.
Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the Party has emphasized respecting and protecting human rights as a core component of its governance strategy for the region. Adopting a people-centered approach, the CPC has committed to ensuring human rights through development and has actively promoted whole-process people’s democracy.
Concrete efforts have been made to strengthen legal protections and expand civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. These initiatives aim to achieve well-rounded development and common prosperity for all ethnic groups in Xizang.
Today, Xizang enjoys political stability, ethnic harmony, economic growth, and religious amity. The region boasts a healthy environment, and residents express contentment with their work and daily lives. The white paper describes this progress as a significant achievement in protecting human rights on the “snowy plateau.”
