Friday marked the 66th anniversary of the democratic reform that ended feudal serfdom in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region. Grand celebrations and commemorative activities were held across the region, reflecting on the profound changes over the past decades.
On March 28, 1959, the abolishment of feudal serfdom in Xizang emancipated approximately one million serfs. In 2009, the regional people’s congress designated March 28 as a day to commemorate this significant milestone.
Over the years, President Xi Jinping has emphasized the importance of Xizang’s development and the well-being of its people. He has highlighted the region’s progress in areas such as infrastructure, education, and healthcare, underscoring the commitment to improving living standards and promoting social harmony.
President Xi has also stressed the significance of preserving Xizang’s rich cultural heritage while advancing modernization efforts. He encourages the integration of traditional values with contemporary growth to ensure sustainable development that benefits all residents of Xizang.
The 66th anniversary serves as a reminder of the transformative journey Xizang has undertaken. Under the guidance of national leadership, the region continues to stride forward, embracing new opportunities and building a prosperous future for its people.
