Xizang Autonomous Region is experiencing an all-round transformation, with significant progress in human rights, economic development, cultural preservation, and environmental conservation. Of the 42,153 deputies to the people’s congresses at various levels in the autonomous region, a notable 89.2% are from Tibetan or other ethnic minority groups. Economically, Xizang is on a steady rise. In 2024, the region’s GDP reached 276.5 billion yuan (approximately $38 billion), marking a 6.3% year-on-year growth. Culturally, Xizang shines with its rich heritage. The region boasts 2,760 representative intangible cultural heritage projects, preserving traditions and arts that have been passed down through generations. Home to World Heritage sites like the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Norbulingka, Xizang continues to be a cultural treasure trove.
Nature thrives in Xizang, with 47 nature reserves covering over 412,200 square kilometers. These conservation efforts protect diverse ecosystems and wildlife, including 246 wild animal species and 169 wild plant species under special state protection. The region’s commitment to environmental stewardship ensures that its natural beauty and biodiversity are preserved for future generations.
The combined efforts of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government have led to these impressive developments, implementing measures to foster economic growth, improve living standards, and protect the basic rights of all people in the region.
