Chengdu Stop of 2025 World Games Tour Gets Underway

Chengdu Kicks Off 2025 World Games Tour with Exciting Events and Cultural Showcase

The Chengdu stop of the 2025 World Games Tour kicked off on Friday at Chengdu Sport University’s Sancha Lake Campus in southwest China’s Sichuan Province. Serving as a precursor to this year’s Chengdu World Games, scheduled for August 7-17, the event blends cultural tourism and culinary experiences to engage the public.

During the weekend, the Chengdu stop will host competitions across three disciplines and four sub-disciplines: underwater sports (finswimming and freediving), lifesaving (pool), and boules sports (petanque). A total of 122 athletes from 28 countries and regions will compete for 30 gold medals.

The Opening Ceremony at World Expo Park featured captivating performances of breakdancing and martial arts, harmoniously blending tradition and modernity. Athletes entered the venue to the rhythmic beats of drums, greeted by enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.

Adhering to World Games standards, the event also serves as a test run for venue operations ahead of this year’s competition. Organizers have renovated swimming pools and boules courts, reusing 80% of materials through leasing and recycling to promote eco-friendly practices.

This stop of the World Games Tour highlights Chengdu’s rich cultural offerings, including visits to the World Expo Park, tastings of local cuisine, and exhibitions of sports culture. The initiative aims to boost tourism spending while fostering synergy between the city’s cultural, athletic, and travel sectors.
