Southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region has made significant strides in economic and social development, according to a white paper released by China’s State Council Information Office. The document highlights the region’s commitment to improving the standard of living, education, employment, health, and social security for its people.
By the end of 2019, Xizang had successfully lifted all 628,000 registered impoverished residents out of poverty. This monumental achievement reflects the region’s dedication to ensuring that everyone has access to basic necessities and opportunities for a better life.
In 2024, those who had been lifted out of poverty saw their per capita net income increase by over 12.5%. This surge in income demonstrates the positive impact of economic policies and development programs implemented in the region.
Xizang’s overall economy continues to grow steadily. In 2024, the region’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached 276.5 billion yuan (approximately $38 billion), marking a 6.3% increase from the previous year. This growth is accompanied by ongoing improvements in infrastructure and social services, further enhancing the quality of life for residents.
The progress in Xizang serves as a testament to the effectiveness of targeted poverty alleviation measures and sustainable development strategies. The focus on building robust infrastructure and providing essential services lays a strong foundation for continued growth and prosperity in the region.
