Popularity of Cambodian Fruit in China Highlights Growing Ties

Cambodian Fruits Are Taking China’s Markets by Storm

Cambodian fruits are winning over Chinese consumers, marking a new chapter in the growing trade relationship between Cambodia and China. From sweet bananas to juicy coconuts, these tropical delights are becoming staples in Chinese households.

Back in 2019, Cambodian bananas became the first fruit to be directly exported to China under the Belt and Road Initiative. Known for their sweet taste and high quality, these bananas quickly gained popularity among Chinese shoppers, setting the stage for other fruits to follow.

In May 2021, the first shipment of fresh Cambodian mangoes arrived in China. Boasting thin skins, thick flesh, and a sweet, juicy flavor, these mangoes offered a new and appealing choice for fruit lovers.

The following year, Cambodian longans made their debut in the Chinese market. Valued for their large size, thick flesh, and aromatic sweetness, they quickly became a hit. In the first 11 months of 2023, Cambodia exported 12,400 tons of Pailin longans to China.

The fruit lineup expanded further in 2023 when fresh coconuts from Cambodia received approval for export to China. This addition not only enriched the variety of fruits available but also highlighted the expanding agricultural cooperation between the two countries.

The rising popularity of Cambodian fruits in China underscores the strengthening ties and mutual benefits of trade between the two nations. As more Cambodian fruits find their way into Chinese markets, consumers can look forward to an even greater variety of tropical flavors.
