China is stepping up efforts to strengthen legal safeguards for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), aiming to enhance cooperation with partner countries in law enforcement, judicial affairs, and the development of legal talent.
Chen Wenqing, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, highlighted China’s commitment during an international forum on BRI legal services held on Sunday.
“The rule of law is a crucial foundation for international cooperation and a fundamental guarantee for shared development,” Chen emphasized. “Within the expansive platform of the BRI, connecting over 150 countries, we are dedicated to working with all partners to strengthen the alignment of laws, policies, standards, and rules.”
In recent years, China has been proactive in enhancing international law enforcement and judicial cooperation. Initiatives such as establishing international commercial courts and launching pilot centers for international commercial arbitration are concrete steps taken to support the BRI’s high-quality development.
Chen expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with all parties to establish mechanisms for cross-border dispute resolution and legal talent development. “We hope to integrate all legal service resources to provide a broader platform for multilateral cooperation among Belt and Road partner countries,” he added.
The BRI, proposed by China in 2013, aims to build trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along ancient trade routes.
