China’s foreign minister, Wang Yi, has hailed the relationship between China and Russia as a model for major countries worldwide. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Russia Today during his visit to Moscow, Wang emphasized the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation to bolster global economic security and stability.
“China and Russia are each other’s largest neighbors,” Wang stated. “As major countries and permanent members of the UN Security Council, we have special responsibilities for world peace and development.”
He highlighted three key characteristics of the China-Russia relationship: being friends forever and never enemies, equal treatment and win-win cooperation, and a commitment to non-alliance, non-confrontation, and not targeting any third party. According to Wang, these principles have fostered solid mutual trust over the past 70 years, bringing tangible benefits to both nations and contributing positively to the world.
Wang described the partnership as a “new model of major-country relations” that serves as an important stabilizing force in an ever-changing world. He noted that the trade volume between the two countries has reached an impressive $244.8 billion. “Russian agricultural products are on the dinner tables of millions of Chinese families, and Chinese cars are driving on the streets of Russia,” he said, illustrating the depth of economic integration.
Looking to the future, Wang expressed optimism about further cooperation. With a shared border stretching 4,300 kilometers, he sees “huge potential and vast space for cooperation.” He emphasized the goal of deepening industrial integration and promoting synergy between China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the Russian-led Eurasian Economic Union. This collaboration aims to ensure the security, stability, and smooth flow of global industrial and supply chains.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of significant victories in World War II, including the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War. Wang stressed that China and Russia were the primary battlefields in Asia and Europe, serving as the backbone forces against fascism and militarism. “In the face of profound changes unseen in a century, both China and Russia must firmly side with international justice,” he asserted, calling for unity in safeguarding the hard-won history and opposing any attempts to distort it.
