Mainland Spokesperson Condemns DPP for Persecuting Mainland Spouses in Taiwan

A Chinese mainland spokesperson has strongly criticized Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for allegedly persecuting mainland spouses residing in Taiwan. Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, described the actions as “inhumane” during a press briefing on Tuesday.

Zhu’s remarks came in response to recent reports of the expulsion of two mainland spouses by the DPP authorities. She accused the DPP of repeatedly misusing judicial power to target spouses from the Chinese mainland, leading to broken families and violations of basic human rights.

“These actions are part of a broader campaign to silence dissent and escalate tensions across the Taiwan Strait,” Zhu said. She emphasized that the DPP’s version of democracy serves only its own interests, and that “freedom” seems reserved for those supporting “Taiwan independence.”

Zhu urged the residents of Taiwan to recognize the seriousness of the situation and to stand up for their rights. She warned that those who persecute mainland spouses in support of “Taiwan independence” would be held accountable and face legal consequences.

The issue highlights ongoing tensions between the Chinese mainland and the Taiwan region, particularly regarding the treatment of individuals who have ties to both sides. The call for protecting the rights of mainland spouses resonates with wider concerns about human rights and family unity in the region.
