Xi Jinping and Murmu Exchange Greetings on 75 Years of China-India Ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian President Droupadi Murmu exchanged warm congratulations on Tuesday, marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and India.

In his message, President Xi highlighted the significance of the ties between the two neighboring giants. “China and India, both ancient civilizations and major developing countries, are at critical stages of modernization,” he said. Xi emphasized that the development of China-India relations demonstrates the value of partnership and mutual achievement, referring to the concept of the “Dragon-Elephant Tango” to symbolize harmonious cooperation.

He called for both nations to view their relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective. “We should seek a path of peaceful coexistence, mutual trust, mutual benefit, and common development,” Xi stated. He expressed readiness to work with President Murmu to enhance strategic mutual trust, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and deepen communication on major international affairs. Xi also underscored the importance of jointly safeguarding peace and tranquility in the China-India border areas.

President Murmu, in her message, noted that India and China are home to one-third of the world’s population. “A stable, predictable, and friendly bilateral relationship will benefit both countries and the world,” she said. Murmu proposed using the milestone anniversary as an opportunity to promote the sound and steady development of India-China relations.

The exchange of messages reflects a mutual desire to fortify ties between the two countries, both influential members of the Global South. As they commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations, China and India appear committed to fostering cooperation and contributing to global peace and prosperity.
