Brussels, Belgium — In a significant move towards bolstering global economic stability, Chinese and European Union officials convened in Brussels on Monday for the 16th China-EU Financial Dialogue. The meeting was co-chaired by Chinese Vice Minister of Finance Liao Min and EU representatives.
The discussions delved deep into the macroeconomic situations of both the Chinese mainland and the EU, exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation under the G20 framework. Key topics included collaborative efforts in audit supervision and government procurement.
“China is willing to work with the EU to actively implement the important consensus reached by our leaders,” Liao Min stated. “Together, we aim to uphold multilateralism and the multilateral trading system, opposing unilateralism and protectionism to provide greater certainty to an uncertain global economy.”
Emphasizing the importance of financial and economic collaboration, Liao highlighted China’s commitment to strengthening ties with the EU. This includes joint efforts within frameworks like the G20 and multilateral development banks, as well as deepening practical cooperation in key financial areas.
“In a spirit of mutual respect and win-win cooperation, China is ready to manage differences through dialogue and consultations,” Liao added. “This will promote the sound and stable development of China-EU economic relations.”
EU officials echoed these sentiments, recognizing the pivotal role both economies play on the world stage. They called for strengthened macroeconomic policy coordination to address global challenges such as climate change and debt issues facing developing countries.
“The EU is willing to enhance dialogue and consultations with China,” an EU representative commented. “By engaging in equal and mutually beneficial cooperation, we can promote stable and balanced economic relations to achieve win-win outcomes.”
This meeting marks a continued commitment by both the Chinese mainland and the EU to foster economic growth and tackle global issues collaboratively, signaling a positive direction for international cooperation.
