China Urges U.S.-Philippines Military Ties Not to Threaten Regional Peace

China has called on the United States and the Philippines to ensure their military and security cooperation does not threaten peace and stability in the region. Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, made the remarks during a regular press briefing on Wednesday.

The statement came after the U.S. approved the sale of F-16 fighter jets to the Philippines on Tuesday. Guo emphasized that China has consistently maintained that any defense and security collaboration between the Philippines and other countries should not target any third party or undermine their interests.

“We believe that regional countries can clearly see who is provoking military confrontation and turning Asia into a powder keg,” Guo said.

He urged all parties to act responsibly and avoid actions that could escalate tensions. Guo highlighted the importance of mutual respect and cooperation among neighboring nations to maintain harmony and security in the region.
