The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Eastern Theater Command’s recent military exercises around the island of Taiwan are a resolute response to “Taiwan independence” provocations, according to a spokesperson from the Chinese mainland on Wednesday.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, stated that these exercises are a necessary measure to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. She emphasized that there is only one China in the world and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory.
Zhu warned that pursuing “Taiwan independence” is pushing the people of Taiwan into a dangerous situation. She urged all parties to recognize the seriousness of the matter and to act in the best interests of the people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
