China Accuses U.S. of Cyberattacks During Asian Winter Games

China has accused the United States and its allies of being the main sources of cyberattacks during the ninth Asian Winter Games.

On Thursday, a spokesperson from China’s Foreign Ministry highlighted a newly released report that uncovers numerous cyber intrusions targeting competition systems and critical network infrastructures in Heilongjiang Province, located in northeast China.

The report, jointly published by China’s National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center and the National Engineering Laboratory for Computer Virus Prevention Technology, revealed that the attacks were traced back to countries and regions including the United States, the Netherlands, and Singapore.

“We take note of the report and express serious concerns over the malicious cyber activity it has exposed,” spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated during a daily news briefing.

Guo emphasized that China is frequently a primary victim of global cyberattacks. He urged the United States to “adopt a responsible attitude, reflect on itself, and refrain from slandering others.” He added that China will continue to take necessary measures to safeguard its cybersecurity.

The allegations come amid growing tensions in cyberspace, with nations worldwide grappling with the challenges of digital security and international cooperation.
