China’s top diplomat Wang Yi visited the Lao Embassy in China on Thursday to pay his respects to the late Khamtay Siphandone, former president of Laos and former chairman of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP).

Wang Yi, who serves as the director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and is a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, wrote in the condolence book, expressing deep sorrow over Khamtay’s passing.

“Comrade Khamtay was an outstanding leader of the older generation of the Lao party and state,” Wang said. “He made significant contributions to the development of relations between China and Laos.”

Wang emphasized that China is ready to work with the Lao side to build a China-Laos community with a shared future, guided by the important consensus reached by the top leaders of both countries.

Khamtay Siphandone served as the president of Laos and chairman of the LPRP, playing a pivotal role in strengthening the ties between the two neighboring nations.
