Chinese Chambers of Commerce Oppose U.S. ‘Reciprocal Tariffs’
Several major Chinese chambers of commerce have come together to express strong opposition to the recent “reciprocal tariffs” imposed by the United States on China. These tariffs have sparked concerns across various industries, with leaders calling for unity and a return to fair trade practices.
The China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products, representing the nation’s healthcare sector, stated on Saturday that it “firmly opposes the unilateral trade measures by the United States.” They emphasized that the health rights and interests of people around the world should not be compromised by unfair trade actions. “We firmly support the countermeasures taken by the Chinese government and will work with the pharmaceutical industry globally to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of international pharmaceutical companies,” the chamber added.
In a separate statement, the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products called on its member enterprises to “unite and adhere to the path of international openness and win-win cooperation.” They encouraged businesses to adjust their foreign trade strategies, explore diversified markets, and accelerate the transformation and upgrading of their operations.
The China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles expressed hope that the U.S. would “heed the voices from global industries and consumers,” urging it to correct actions that “serve the interests of neither itself nor others” and to return to the right course.
Furthermore, the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Light Industrial Products and Arts-Crafts called on the international industrial community and partners worldwide to join hands in collectively opposing the U.S. trade practices. They stressed the importance of collaboration among light industry enterprises from various countries to promote fair and mutually beneficial trade.
These unified statements reflect a strong stance from Chinese industries, advocating for open dialogue and cooperation in the face of escalating trade tensions.
