Armenian violinist Astrid Poghosyan has spent the last 16 years redefining what it means to belong. Arriving in Shanghai as a music student in 2009, she has since woven a rich tapestry of cultural exchange between Armenia and the Chinese mainland.

Through her music, Astrid roots Armenian folk melodies in Chinese soil, blending them with pieces like the famous Chinese composition “Butterfly Lovers.” Her performances create a unique dialogue between Eurasian cultures, resonating with audiences from both her homeland and her adopted country.

In 2023, Astrid’s efforts were recognized when she became Shanghai’s youngest-ever recipient of the Magnolia Memorial Award. Honored as a “cultural bridge-builder,” she transforms concert halls into vibrant melting pots where the echoes of the Caucasus Mountains meet the currents of the Yangtze River.

“Choosing China was one of the most pivotal decisions of my life,” Astrid reflects. Her journey showcases not just her personal growth but also the power of music to unite people across continents.
