In an official statement released on Saturday, the Chinese government firmly opposed the United States’ recent imposition of tariffs, labeling it as an abuse that undermines global economic stability.
China accused the U.S. of violating World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and disrupting the international trade system by imposing tariffs on various countries, including China, under what it calls “various pretexts.”
“The United States defies fundamental economic laws and market principles,” the statement read. “It weaponizes tariffs to exert maximum pressure for selfish interests, engaging in unilateralism and economic bullying.”
The Chinese government emphasized that such actions harm not only China but also disrupt the global economic order, affecting countries worldwide. China called for a mutually beneficial relationship with the U.S., urging Washington to cease using tariffs as a tool for economic suppression.
“China-U.S. economic relations should be mutually beneficial and win-win in nature,” the statement continued. “The United States should stop undermining the legitimate development rights of the Chinese people.”
Despite the tensions, China reaffirmed its commitment to opening its economy and promoting international cooperation. As the world’s second-largest economy, China plans to continue advancing trade and investment liberalization, fostering an inclusive business environment, and sharing development opportunities globally.
“Openness and cooperation are a historical trend,” the government stated. “Economic globalization is the only way to human progress.”
China called upon the international community to oppose unilateralism and protectionism, advocating for a collective effort to uphold multilateral trading systems and global fairness.
“There are no winners in trade or tariff wars,” the statement concluded. “The world must embrace fairness and reject hegemonism.”
