Chinese rescuers have been providing critical medical aid to residents in Myanmar’s Mandalay region following a devastating 7.9-magnitude earthquake. On Saturday, the China International Search and Rescue Team continued their outreach, offering much-needed care to those affected by the disaster.
At a relief camp near the University of Medicine in Mandalay, the team’s medical personnel utilized advanced mobile diagnostic equipment, including handheld ultrasound devices, portable X-ray machines, and ECG monitors. Over 250 local residents received free examinations, helping to identify and treat injuries and illnesses resulting from the quake.
Essential medications such as anti-infectives, pain relievers, and antihypertensives were distributed based on individual diagnoses. Near Mandalay Palace, the medical team focused on addressing prevalent local diseases, especially respiratory, digestive, and immune system disorders exacerbated by high temperatures in the earthquake zone. They provided medication guidance and health education to improve public health awareness and self-care capabilities.
The team comprises over 10 experts specializing in fields like internal medicine, surgery, and pediatrics. Since arriving in Myanmar, they have been instrumental in search-and-rescue operations and structural assessments, and have disinfected over 120,000 square meters of affected areas.
Working alongside other Chinese rescue teams, including the China Search and Rescue Team, a rescue team from Hong Kong, and the Shenzhen Public Welfare Rescue Team, they have provided continuous medical support, conducting over 500 medical consultations. The China International Search and Rescue Team plans to continue their medical outreach across relief camps in Mandalay, prioritizing treatment for acute and chronic conditions such as respiratory, hepatobiliary, cardiovascular, and endocrine disorders.
In addition to on-site care, the team plans to donate urgently needed medical supplies and equipment to local facilities, further supporting Myanmar’s recovery efforts in the aftermath of the earthquake.
