China’s recent move to tighten export controls on certain rare earth-related items demonstrates its strong commitment to preserving global peace and security, according to the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association.
The announcement came after China’s Ministry of Commerce and the General Administration of Customs declared on April 4 that they would enforce export control measures on specific items related to seven types of medium and heavy rare earths.
“Rare earth-related items have both military and civilian applications,” the association stated. “China’s export control measures are fully in line with international practices.”
The association emphasized that as long as companies do not engage in activities that undermine China’s national sovereignty, security, or development interests, these export controls will not hinder normal business operations or trade activities. “There will be no impact on the stability and security of international industrial and supply chains,” they added.
Chinese rare earth enterprises will adhere to the requirements of the new announcement, insisting on higher standards of openness and continuing to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation with friendly countries, the association affirmed.
