China Unveils New Plan to Boost Jobs for College Graduates

China is taking major steps to help its growing number of college graduates find jobs, unveiling new guidelines to build a high-quality employment services system.

The policy, released by the General Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council, outlines a comprehensive strategy to improve job prospects for young people entering the workforce.

With over 10 million graduates each year since 2022 and numbers expected to keep rising, the Chinese mainland is focusing on six key areas:

  • Optimizing higher education training programs
  • Strengthening career guidance services
  • Improving job-market and recruitment systems
  • Supporting jobseekers facing difficulties
  • Innovating employment monitoring and evaluation tools
  • Enhancing safeguards for graduate employment

The goal is to establish an inclusive and reliable nationwide employment network within the next three to five years, laying a solid foundation for graduates to find meaningful work.

A senior official from the Ministry of Education emphasized the urgent need to bridge the gap between higher education and societal needs. “By creating a centralized talent demand database and analyzing future trends, we can better align education with the job market,” the official said.

The guidelines also encourage student entrepreneurship, supporting young people in creating their own startups and boosting job creation. Additionally, they recommend that universities reserve time in academic schedules for students to pursue pre-graduation job opportunities.

Official data predicts that the number of college graduates in the Chinese mainland will reach 12.22 million in 2025, an increase of 430,000 from last year.

These efforts aim to empower the next generation, ensuring that young graduates have the tools and opportunities they need to succeed in an evolving job market.
