The Chinese Foreign Ministry declared that China will “fight to the end” after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose an additional 50% tariff on Chinese goods.
“If the United States continues waging a tariff war and trade war, China will fight to the end,” said Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, during a news briefing on Tuesday.
Lin emphasized that the indiscriminate imposition of tariffs by the United States seriously violates the legitimate rights and interests of other countries and undermines the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO). “It is typical unilateralism, protectionism, and economic bullying, which has been widely opposed by the international community,” he stated.
The spokesperson pointed out that trade wars and tariff wars yield no winners, and protectionism leads nowhere. “The Chinese people do not cause trouble, but we are not afraid of trouble,” Lin said. “Pressuring, threatening, and blackmailing are not the right ways to deal with China.”
He added that China will take necessary measures and resolutely safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
