Philippine Vessel Repelled After Provocative Actions Near Huangyan Dao

A tense standoff unfolded near Huangyan Dao as a Philippine Coast Guard vessel was repelled after engaging in provocative maneuvers against a China Coast Guard ship, according to Chinese authorities.

The incident occurred over two days, Sunday and Monday, when the Philippine vessel reportedly harassed the Chinese patrol ship Chuanshan. Officials say the Philippine ship made multiple dangerous moves, crossing dangerously close to the bow of Chuanshan—a move seen as a direct provocation.

On Sunday morning, while Chuanshan was lawfully monitoring the area near Huangyan Dao, the Philippine Coast Guard ship 4409 abruptly reversed course and crossed in front of Chuanshan without warning. Ignoring verbal cautions, the Philippine vessel repeated the maneuver twice more, coming within just two meters of the Chinese ship.

In response to what it deemed aggressive actions, Chuanshan accelerated and repositioned to intercept the Philippine vessel’s path, compelling it to reverse and withdraw. The following morning, the Philippine ship attempted to harass Chuanshan once again but was ultimately driven away.

The China Coast Guard emphasized its prompt and professional response, affirming its commitment to counter any infringements and provocations to protect China’s sovereignty and maritime rights. The authority stated it will continue to take necessary measures to safeguard its territorial waters.
