China has released a new white paper emphasizing the importance of fair economic and trade relations with the United States, urging dialogue based on mutual respect and cooperation.
On Wednesday, the State Council Information Office of China published the document titled “China’s Position on Some Issues Concerning China-U.S. Economic and Trade Relations.” The white paper highlights the significance of China-U.S. economic ties not only for both nations but also for the stability and growth of the global economy.
“Cooperation benefits both sides, while confrontation results in mutual loss,” the document states, calling for healthy and stable development in bilateral relations.
Mutual Benefits in Trade
The white paper reaffirms that China does not seek a trade surplus with the U.S. and emphasizes that both countries have gained substantially from economic cooperation. It underscores China’s commitment to implementing the phase-one economic and trade agreement between the two nations.
China has taken measures to strengthen intellectual property protection, prohibit forced technology transfers, expand market access in sectors like agriculture and financial services, and maintain practical communication with the U.S. side.
Commitment to Free Trade
Emphasizing adherence to the principles of free trade and World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, the white paper details China’s progress in improving trade policy compliance. This includes fulfilling tariff reduction commitments, providing subsidies within international norms, and continuously optimizing the business environment for foreign businesses.
Concerns Over U.S. Policies
The document expresses concerns over recent U.S. actions that have disrupted bilateral cooperation. It criticizes the broadening of national security definitions, overuse of export controls, and the imposition of “reciprocal tariffs,” stating that these measures undermine the healthy development of economic relations.
Call for Dialogue and Cooperation
Concluding the white paper, China calls for resolving disputes through dialogue and cooperation based on equality and mutual benefit. It echoes the hope of the international community that collaboration between China and the U.S. will bring more opportunities to the world.
“We urge the U.S. to work together on the basis of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation to promote a stable, healthy, and sustainable China-U.S. economic relationship,” the paper reads.
