China Vows to Counter U.S. Trade Moves Amidst Escalating Tensions

Beijing, China — China’s Ministry of Commerce announced on Wednesday that the country is prepared to take strong countermeasures against the United States if it continues to escalate trade restrictions. In a firm statement, the ministry emphasized China’s resolve to defend its legitimate rights and interests.

“There is no winner in a trade war, and China does not want one,” said an official from the ministry. “But the Chinese government will by no means sit by when the legitimate rights of its people are being hurt and deprived.”

The remarks came in response to a newly released white paper outlining China’s stance on economic and trade relations with the U.S. The document highlights the importance of cooperation between the two nations and calls for the immediate removal of unilateral tariffs imposed by the U.S.

The official criticized the U.S. for its use of tariffs as a tool of pressure, labeling it an act of unilateralism and protectionism. “Under the guise of pursuing ‘reciprocity’ and ‘fairness,’ the United States is engaging in zero-sum games and, in essence, seeking ‘America First’ and ‘American exceptionalism,'” the official stated.

China expressed its willingness to engage in dialogue to address mutual concerns but insisted that discussions must be on an equal footing. The ministry warned that U.S. actions risk disrupting global industrial and supply chains, which could have serious repercussions for the world economy.

The white paper also noted that increasing tariffs has not helped the U.S. reduce its trade deficit. Instead, it has raised import costs and further widened the gap, ultimately backfiring on the U.S. economy.

As tensions rise, the global community watches closely, concerned about the implications for international trade and economic stability. China and the U.S., as the world’s largest developing and developed countries respectively, have highly complementary economies that stand to benefit from mutual cooperation.

“China will continue to tap into its potential and open its vast market to the world, injecting new momentum into global economic growth,” the official added.
