The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has declared its commitment to strengthening a fair and inclusive global trade system centered around the World Trade Organization (WTO). In a statement released on Thursday, the SCO affirmed its support for an open, transparent, and nondiscriminatory multilateral trading system.
“Member states are dedicated to enhancing the WTO-centered multilateral trade framework to effectively address global trade challenges,” the statement read. The organization emphasized the importance of advancing discussions on development issues within the WTO.
The SCO also called for the creation of open, inclusive, sustainable, and resilient global supply chains. “It’s crucial for international trade that supply chains remain robust and adaptable,” the statement noted.
Established to promote cooperation in various fields, the SCO continues to play a significant role in shaping economic policies that affect a vast portion of the world’s population.
