China’s Ministry of Commerce announced on Friday that the country has filed a lawsuit against the United States with the World Trade Organization (WTO)‘s dispute settlement mechanism. This move comes in response to the latest U.S. tariff hikes on Chinese products.
The United States recently imposed further increases in what it calls “reciprocal tariffs” targeting Chinese goods. A spokesperson from China’s Ministry of Commerce condemned these measures, stating that they represent unilateral bullying and coercion. The spokesperson emphasized that the U.S. actions are a blatant violation of WTO rules and severely undermine the rules-based multilateral trading system and the international economic and trade order.
China affirmed its determination to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests and to resolutely uphold the multilateral trading system. The spokesperson urged the U.S. to immediately correct its wrongdoings and cancel all unilateral tariff measures imposed on China.
This development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies. Observers are closely watching how this dispute will unfold within the WTO framework and what it means for global trade dynamics.
