The 16th Tour of Hainan concluded with a thrilling finish on Friday in Sanya, south China’s Hainan Province. Alexander Salby of Li-Ning Star sprinted to victory in the final stage, while Kyrylo Tsarenko of Solution Tech Vini Fantini clinched the overall championship.
The fifth and final stage spanned 182.8 kilometers, starting from Dongfang, passing through Ledong, and ending in Sanya. Salby surged ahead in the last moments, crossing the finish line in 4 hours, 18 minutes, and 3 seconds. “I promised my girlfriend I’d win this stage,” Salby revealed with a grin after the race.
Despite finishing 28th in the last stage, Tsarenko’s consistent performance secured him the yellow jersey with a total time of 19 hours, 28 minutes, and 45 seconds. “It all feels chaotic and exciting,” Tsarenko exclaimed. “I didn’t expect to win. I came here to collect points and improve my ranking. Keeping the yellow jersey for two days feels more than perfect.”
Meanwhile, Vadim Pronskiy from the Terengganu Cycling Team earned the blue jersey as the best Asian rider, rounding off an action-packed week of cycling in Hainan.
