AI and Flying Cars Steal the Show at Hainan Expo

Global tech firms are showcasing the future at the 5th China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE), also known as the Hainan Expo, which kicked off on April 13. With over 4,100 brands from around the world, the event is a hub for cutting-edge technologies and emerging trends, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI), smart homes, and the low-altitude economy.

Humanoid robots are among the star attractions. Chinese robotics company Unitree unveiled G1, the country’s first mass-produced humanoid robot. Boasting between 23 and 43 joint motors, G1 can execute complex dynamic movements, captivating audiences with its agility. Another highlight is Tesla’s humanoid robot, featuring upgraded technology that increases upright walking speed by 30 percent.

Smart living solutions are drawing significant interest as well. Tech giant Huawei is presenting its full HarmonyOS ecosystem, demonstrating seamless interaction across users, vehicles, and homes. The company’s foldable Pura X phone, equipped with an AI-powered outer display, offers an immersive user experience.

China Mobile is highlighting integrated smart life scenarios, including four-legged robotic dogs designed to assist elderly people living alone. Additionally, AI-powered home systems are on display, capable of monitoring nine categories of abnormal behavior to enhance safety and convenience.

For the first time, the expo features a dedicated low-altitude economy exhibition zone. Industry leaders are debuting certified new products like drones, electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, and flying cars. These exhibits cover key aspects of the industry, from manufacturing to 3D traffic management systems and flight training.

Visitors to this year’s CICPE can also explore tech-driven experiences, including brain-computer interfaces, exoskeletons, and sleep-assistance technology aimed at elderly care. The event runs until April 18.
