China Media Group (CMG) has launched the broadcasting of premium Chinese TV and film programs in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Starting this week, seven high-quality Chinese shows will be aired on Cambodia’s mainstream media outlets, bringing fresh entertainment to Cambodian audiences.
At the launch ceremony on Sunday, Shen Haixiong, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and president of CMG, delivered a video address. He highlighted the strengthening ties between China and Cambodia, stating, “Under the guidance of our leaders, China-Cambodia relations are moving toward a brighter future. This collaboration is a positive step to enhance cultural exchanges and deepen the friendship between our countries.”
Khim Vuthy, director general of the National Television of Cambodia (TVK), expressed enthusiasm for the partnership. “The broadcast of these selected films and TV series offers Cambodian audiences a valuable opportunity to gain deeper insights into contemporary China and experience the unique charm of Chinese culture,” he said.
Khvay Atitya, director of Apsara TV, also shared his thoughts on the collaboration. “These programs will present a real, three-dimensional, and comprehensive view of China from a rich perspective,” he noted. “They will promote mutual understanding between our peoples and further enhance cultural exchange.”
The introduction of Chinese programming in Cambodia marks a significant milestone in film and television cooperation between the two nations. Both countries have a long history of friendship and have maintained close exchanges in politics, economy, and culture. This initiative aims to foster greater connectivity and understanding among the younger generations in both countries.
