‘The Sky Won’t Fall’: China’s Exports Show Resilience Amid Global Challenges

Beijing, China — Amid a complex global landscape, a Chinese customs official has assured that China’s export industry remains strong and resilient. At a press conference on Monday, Lyu Daliang from the General Administration of Customs (GAC) declared, “The sky won’t fall” for China’s exports.

Despite external challenges, China’s total goods imports and exports grew by 1.3% year-on-year in yuan-denominated terms during the first quarter of this year, according to GAC data released on Monday. This steady growth highlights the nation’s ability to navigate global economic uncertainties.

Lyu emphasized China’s efforts in diversifying foreign trade markets and deepening industrial and supply chain cooperation worldwide. “These efforts have not only supported our partners’ development but also enhanced our own resilience,” he said.

He also pointed to China’s vast domestic market as a strong foundation for economic stability. “We will turn domestic certainty into a buffer against global volatility,” Lyu added, highlighting the country’s commitment to sustaining growth and supporting global trade partners.

This message of confidence comes as many countries grapple with economic fluctuations, and it underscores China’s role in the global economy, especially for developing nations in the Global South looking to strengthen their own trade relationships.
