Vietnam’s To Lam Hails Xi Jinping’s Visit as a Milestone in Bilateral Ties
In a move set to strengthen bonds between Vietnam and China, To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, expressed optimism about Chinese President Xi Jinping’s upcoming state visit to Vietnam. Speaking on Monday, To Lam highlighted that the visit would significantly contribute to the traditional friendship and open a new chapter in the relations between the two neighboring countries.
“Peace, friendship, cooperation, and development have always been at the heart of our nations’ relationship,” To Lam stated in an article published in the People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. He emphasized that the stable and sustainable development of Vietnam-China ties is in the fundamental and long-term interests of both peoples.
Over recent years, Vietnam and China have seen their bilateral relations reach new heights, achieving comprehensive progress across various sectors. To Lam noted that diversified exchanges and cooperation mechanisms have enriched their comprehensive strategic partnership, deepening collaboration in numerous fields.
On the economic front, To Lam pointed out that Vietnam remains China’s largest trading partner within ASEAN and has become China’s fourth-largest trading partner globally. Conversely, China has emerged as Vietnam’s third-largest source of foreign investment, ranking first in the number of new investment projects.
Calling for continued collaboration, To Lam urged both nations to implement high-level exchange mechanisms and enhance cooperation in diplomacy, national defense, and security. He advocated for promoting pragmatic, balanced, and sustainable development in bilateral cooperation, focusing on areas where China has strengths and Vietnam has needs.
With the Vietnam-China Year of People-to-People Exchanges underway, To Lam encouraged efforts to boost cultural, tourism, and educational cooperation. “By fostering closer connections between our peoples, we can strengthen the friendly relations between our Parties and countries,” he said.
President Xi’s visit is expected to solidify the partnership between the two countries, paving the way for mutual growth and prosperity. As both nations look to the future, the emphasis on cooperation and shared development goals signals a promising outlook for Vietnam-China relations.
