Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on China and Vietnam to deepen their partnership and build a community with a shared future. In a signed article published on Monday in Vietnam’s Nhan Dan Newspaper, President Xi emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two nations for regional peace and prosperity.
“Building the China-Vietnam community with a shared future holds strategic significance,” Xi wrote. “It serves the common interests of our countries and contributes to peace, stability, development, and prosperity in Asia and beyond.”
He highlighted four key areas for strengthened cooperation:
- Deepening strategic mutual trust and advancing the socialist cause.
- Continuing win-win cooperation to benefit the people of both nations.
- Enhancing people-to-people exchanges to forge closer bonds.
- Promoting multilateral collaboration for Asia’s prosperity and revitalization.
The president warned against the dangers of trade wars and protectionism, stating, “Trade war and tariff war will produce no winner, and protectionism will lead nowhere.” He urged both countries to “resolutely safeguard the multilateral trading system, stable global industrial and supply chains, and an open and cooperative international environment.”
Addressing regional stability, Xi said, “We should properly manage differences and safeguard peace and stability in our region.” He pointed to the successful delimitation of boundaries on land and in the Beibu Gulf as evidence that maritime issues can be resolved through consultation and negotiation.
President Xi also expressed China’s openness to Vietnamese products and investment opportunities. “China welcomes more quality Vietnamese products into our market and encourages more Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Vietnam,” he wrote. He emphasized cooperation in emerging fields such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and green development.
Looking toward the future, Xi noted, “Asia represents a new elevation in global cooperation and development.” He acknowledged the unprecedented opportunities and challenges that lie ahead and reaffirmed China’s commitment to its neighbors. “We will stay committed to the principle of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness. We will continue to pursue the policy of forging friendship and partnership with our neighbors,” he concluded.
