China has experienced a significant surge in cross-border travel, with immigration authorities handling 163 million entry and exit trips in the first quarter of 2025. This marks a 15.3% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the National Immigration Administration.
Of these trips, 80.27 million were made by residents of the Chinese mainland, showcasing a growing trend in international travel among the population. Additionally, 65.72 million trips were conducted by Chinese residents from Hong Kong, Macao, and the Taiwan region, indicating robust regional mobility. Foreign nationals accounted for 17.43 million entries and exits, reflecting China’s continued appeal as a global destination.
Experts attribute this growth to eased travel restrictions and revitalized economic activities. The uptick signifies a strong rebound in tourism and business exchanges, contributing positively to the global economy.
