The Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) has announced a 28-player roster for the national women’s basketball team as they prepare for the upcoming FIBA Women’s Asia Cup. The squad features top talent from across the country, including center Li Yueru, who brings international experience from the Turkish league.
Standout teams from the recent Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) league finals, Dongguan and Sichuan, each have four players selected. Representing Dongguan are Huang Sijing, Yang Liwei, Yang Shuyu, and Chen Mingling. Sichuan contributes Han Xu, Li Meng, Wang Siyu, and Jia Saiqi to the roster.
Other notable players include Pan Zhenqi, Li Yuan, Zhang Ru, and promising young talent Zhang Ziyu. Head coach Gong Luming emphasized that the roster not only highlights exceptional players from national competitions but also looks ahead to future challenges, including the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
“Any excellent player is wanted for the national team training list, and hopefully through training, we can select the best players to participate in major competitions,” Gong stated.
China is setting its sights on capturing the Women’s Asia Cup title. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Shenzhen, south China’s Guangdong Province, from July 13 to 20.
The team plans to kick off training in Kunming, the capital city of southwest China’s Yunnan Province, from April 20 to May 18. They will then return to Beijing for the next phase of preparation from May 19 to June 10. Six warmup games are slated between early June and early July. The squad will arrive in Shenzhen on July 10 to make final preparations for the competition.
