Mohan Port in southwest China’s Yunnan Province is bustling like never before.
As of this Tuesday, the port, which sits at the border between the Chinese mainland and Laos, has processed over 415,000 entries and exits of travelers from ASEAN member countries this year. That’s a staggering 24% increase compared to the same period last year.
These travelers now make up more than 45% of the port’s total cross-border passenger traffic. They come for various reasons: exploring new tourist destinations, reconnecting with family and friends, or attending business meetings and conferences.
Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia top the list of ASEAN countries with the highest number of travelers passing through Mohan Port. Their growing presence highlights the strengthening ties and increasing mobility within the region.
In total, Mohan Port has handled over 920,000 inbound and outbound passengers so far this year, marking an 11.8% increase from the previous year. The surge reflects the vibrant exchange between the Chinese mainland and its ASEAN neighbors.
