Xi Jinping’s Visit to Cambodia: Building a Shared Future Together

Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Cambodia for a state visit aiming to strengthen the ties between the two nations. In a signed article published in Cambodian media, President Xi expressed hopes that his visit would spearhead progress in building a China-Cambodia community with a shared future.

Highlighting the deep-rooted friendship between the two countries, President Xi noted that their relations span over two millennia, fostered by geographical proximity and cultural exchanges. He emphasized the historical connections forged by Cambodia’s King Father Norodom Sihanouk and China’s Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai, which have laid a strong foundation for today’s partnership.

President Xi pointed out that the China-Cambodia community with a shared future is powered by equality and mutual benefit. China has been Cambodia’s largest trading partner and source of investment for many years, with cooperation in industrial and supply chains continuing to deepen.

He also highlighted the importance of inclusiveness and mutual learning. Over the past 30 years, China has sent experts to Cambodia in fields like archaeology, cultural heritage, and the arts, contributing to the preservation and celebration of treasures like the Angkor legacy.

Looking ahead, President Xi urged both countries to enhance synergy between China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy. He called for the advancement of the Industrial and Technological Corridor and the Fish and Rice Corridor, initiatives aimed at boosting economic growth and development.

President Xi concluded by encouraging both nations to work together for greater security, increase people-to-people exchanges, and strengthen high-level strategic coordination, paving the way for a stable and sustainable shared future.
